Intimate Downtown Calgary Restaurant Wedding
Carmen and Collin contacted us a few months before their wedding wondering if we were still free to photograph a small wedding in Calgary. They shared the most heart warming story about their chosen venue during our first skype call. We were hooked. A Beautiful Family Story
Carmen’s family owns La Chaumiere restaurant, a beautiful space serving fabulous french inspired cuisine. It’s a quaint little building tucked away on the east side of 17th avenue in Calgary. Carmen and her siblings grew up spending time in the restaurant. Her family dedicated their whole lives to serving the patrons of their business. As they grew, Carmen and her siblings worked in the restaurant. The staff were extended family to her and her siblings.
Carmen’s parents knew their time running the restaurant was coming to a close. When they announced it to Carmen, she knew they needed one last family celebration before they passed it on. For that reason Carmen and Collin decided to expedite their wedding celebration so they could hold it in the family restaurant. Carmen couldn’t think of a better place to say “I do”. So, the idea to have an intimate downtown Calgary wedding was set in motion. They only had a few months to plan it, but we knew it was going to be a special occasion for everyone, given the circumstances.
Intimate Downtown Calgary Restaurant Wedding Vibes
Their wedding was perfect. It was a sunny day in July and Calgary was bustling with the buzz of Stampede. The restaurant’s back patio was the perfect location for their outdoor ceremony and across the road was the perfect spot for some casual photos. A little green space tucked away just south of the busyness of 17th Ave. Afterwards, everyone gathered to pop bubbly, share a glass of wine and celebrate. It really was the perfect day!
Casual intimate weddings are winning over our hearts. The energy of a smaller wedding is different. There is more time for true connection, the whole day is less rushed and the overall feeling in the room is a little lighter.
We loved photographing this very special day for these two families. Congratulations you guys! From, your Calgary wedding photographers.
My Favourite Storyline
The bride’s father was so excited (and nervous) prepping the restaurant for the wedding. In one regard, one of the most interesting story threads from this wedding was the father and his love and dedication in putting on the wedding for his daughter and new son in law. Witnessing the love and care the family put into the celebration was touching and capturing a few quiet moments of the father making preparations before the guests arrived was one of my personal favourite parts of the day.
A Special Touch
What made this wedding extra special was that the bride and her siblings grew up in this restaurant. They would come here after school, the staff knew them personally. In a way, this was a homecoming for the bride’s family, a final meal at the family table.
Intimate weddings are fast becoming some of our very favourite to photograph. There’s something different about the energy of the day. With fewer people in attendance, time seems to expand. Furthermore, we see our couples interact more with guests and savour the relationships that are most important to them. There is time to clink glasses with your friends from university, a chance to sit down with your great aunt. There’s time to sneak away and have a conversation with your loved ones. That my friends, is what a wedding day should be all about. Carmen and Collin planned the perfect day. This intimate downtown Calgary restaurant wedding is the stuff we all dream about.
